Turn left there staying in the left lane and by this time you will be able to see the U of M campus. This road will fork, but continue on left until you hit the next stoplight where you will turn left again and this will take you directly into the parking areas for the show. "Campus Drive" is the name of the street that you want, but you will see the fieldhouse/dome and Washington-Grizzly stadium long before you reach it.
  • Note: A word to the drivers; Although you have heard there is no speed limit in Montana, well, there is a 65 MPH one at night and in the daytime, they will start pulling you over after about 95-100 MPH. I drove past one in a newer model car @ 92 MPH and he did not pull me over. But the worse shape your vehicle's in and visibility/road conditions, the "speed limit" gets lower and lower.

  • Notes: "Parking is free, there is a hotel (Rushmore Plaza Holiday Inn) right next to the Civic Center, but summer rates will probably be $100 or so. There are plenty of other hotels/motels in town. This is a big tourist area (with Mt. Rushmore and all), so it is probably a good idea to make reservations. Rapid City is pretty small (population 70,000 or so), so no matter where you stay the drive to the Civic Center should take no longer than 15 minutes."

  • Opening act: Frank Black
  • TM venue
  • Seating chart
  • Directions: From I-90 North or South exit at Madison Street. Go West on Madison to 1901 West Madison.
  • Notes: "The United Center is in a TERRIBLE neighborhood...so if you have a choice, don't bring your best car and hide valuables under the seat. Also, I would not suggest going to any of the fast food restuarants in the area. Get back on the tollway heading north or south and you will find something soon enough. Needless to say, gas is also very high priced in the city and most of Cook County. If you are coming from the south, I would highly suggest getting gas (if you need it,) before coming near the city. As well from the north, before you hit Lake Cook Road."
  • Map
  • More notes: "Expect to pay at least $10 for parking. Also, the closest nest of reasonably priced hotels that are in a safe area is by O'Hare airport, approximately a half-hour drive from United Center. There are many hotels downtown/Michigan Avenue, but they fill up fast if a trade show is in town, and almost all are over $100/night. In addition, you must take city streets to UC from downtown, but you can take the expressway from O'Hare. City streets in Chicago are slow and unpredictable."

  • Parking: $6. Lots open two hours before showtime. No tailgate parties or alcoholic beverages permitted.
  • Notes: "It's out in the middle of nowhere, meaning no hotels near by, so you'd probably be best off booking something in Overland Park and just dealing with the twenty-five minute ride to get there and back. (Both Overland Park and the venue are right off the 435 loop which circles the city.)"

  • Notes: "Vet. Mem. is away from all the main attractions / parking nightmares in PHX. It is located at the state fair grounds, and parking is good. If you're coming from out-of-town be careful of the one-way streets near the venue (believe you me... this part of town is a pain in the butt to drive in and it's easy to get lost). And if you want to enjoy yourself after the show then go south (but not to south) to downtown PHX or Tempe, or you will be shot, raped, murdered, etc. Both downtown PHX & Tempe are active late at night."
